GYNT, THE ALBUM
Music from the March 2013 production of “Peer Gynt” in Santa Cruz, CA.
From 2012-2013, over a hundred and fifty artists collaborated on The Gynt Project, a year-long trek through Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece, “Peer Gynt.” A group of musicians, including composer and band leader Eric Parson, soundscape artist Chris Molla, and music professor Ben Carson, worked with professional actors, designers, and installation artists, creating their own responses to the Norwegian epic. The result of their work is this studio cast recording, mixed by Eric Parson.
The album takes you on Peer Gynt’s journey, from a polka drawn from the very valley where Peer was born, to modern arrangements of Edvard Grieg’s incidental music, with heartbreaking love songs, gritty blues, eerie soundscapes, and underwater funk in between.
The Gynt Band was:
Accordion, Guitar, Viola, Vocals, Band Leader: Eric Parson
Bass: Mikael Witte
Percussion: Caleb Blondet-Fraser
Keyboards: Laura Wisdom
The Gynt Project was directed and produced by Kimberly Jannarone.
